Toto Covering Weezer? 2018 is an Amazing Time

Posted by clintdomingue on July 30, 2018 in Featured

The band Toto has been going through a bit of a resurgence in 2018 and one of the big reasons why was because of Weezer covering “Rosanna” and of course the group’s biggest hit “Africa”.

Well, it seems like they’re going to return the favor and cover one of Weezer’s more iconic songs, releasing a studio version of it in a few weeks. Sadly, it’s not “My Name Is Jonas” or “Beverly Hills”.  It’s their 2001 single”Hash Pipe” which is one of my favorite music videos. Don’t ask why, but the whole thing revolving around sumo wrestlers was amazing to 12-year old me.

Once I saw the news, it got me thinking and there’s no way that they have the song retain the driving guitars and Toto has to perform in a Yacht Rock style to truly return the favor. Weezer’s cover of “Africa” was done in their own style so why not do it that way? I’m totally looking forward to this.

All that being said, Toto’s best song was “Hold the Line”, don’t @ me on Twitter.
