As far as multiplayer co-op video games go, Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of the best. Based in NYC in the near future, where a plague has broken out world-wide and is wiping out a large part of the population. You are an agent of The Division, tasked with defending what’s left of civilization from criminal factions, and maybe, if you’re lucky, a little justice against whoever let out the plague.
The Division 2 is very similar, except it’s set in Washington D.C. You are able to partner up with friends in the game and take on the opposition together. You get certain perks that you can build on that can help fight and/or heal, depending on how you set it up. It also has RPG like progression for perks and equipment. As you level up you unlock new territories and fight new types of enemies in different, sometimes rival, gangs. So when you return to an area after fighting new new type of enemy for a while, you might get wrecked unexpected because you need to adjust your fighting style.
There’s loads of satisfying loot , guns, equipment and mods, to grab all over the place, and you capture Control Points that you can help supply with Water Food and Material in exchange for experience and Bounty locations, which can be very tough but rewarding.
It can be a bit glitchy, no more I find than one will normally get on a new multiplayer game. And it’s a lot of fun when you learn how to work together, my buddy and I call out flanks, reloads, bosses, when we move up towards an enemy and we call which side we’ll take when taking on many enemies at once. It requires a bit of strategy, a bit of communication, and a good deal of time going through all of the equipment they give you.
If you liked the first, check it out. If you never played, but you know you like co-op, check it out. It’s even fun, albeit a bit tough, alone.
