Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Rally Comes Up Short Against Texas State

Posted by clintdomingue on April 28, 2019 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News

Despite a four-run seventh inning, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns couldn’t overcome 13 free passes on Sunday in a 10-8 loss to Texas State.

How It Happened:

After a leadoff single by Jaylen Hubbard, Logan Savoy walked three straight batters before Tony Robichaux pulled him from the game. After another bases-loaded walk, Texas State got three more runs across with the highlight being a two-run single by Wesley Faison to make it a 5-0 ballgame in the first.

The Cajuns responded though with a two-run single by Daniel Lahare in the bottom frame. O’Neal Lochridge got his first home run as a Cajun in the second with a solo shot that just got past the glove of John Wultrich.

After Lahare got Kasuls across home plate in the third, Texas State got two more runs across in the fourth with a pair of RBI single from Jaxon Williams and Will Hollis, making it a 7-4 ballgame. The Cajuns fought back though in the seventh inning, getting four runs across, highlighted by an RBI single right up the middle from O’Neal Lochridge. However, Dalton Shuffield snuffed out that rally with an RBI single to right field to score Wultirch and help hand the Cajuns their seventh straight loss.

Big Number: 13

Not only was it an unlucky number, but the Cajuns 13 free passes was a big reason why the Bobcats got 10 runs on only seven hits.

Player of the Game: Daniel Lahare

Lahare has looked good as of late, but his performance on Sunday was more about efficiency with three RBIs coming off of two hits. It’s exactly what the Cajuns needed, especially early but it wasn’t nearly enough because of the aforementioned walks and hit by pitches.

Next Up: Friday vs UL Monroe; First Pitch at 5 pm
