Lafayette Strong: Unite. Honor. Heal. Hosted by Lafayette Consolidated Government

The public is invited to a community gathering for healing in the wake of the recent shooting at Lafayette’s Grand 16 Theater. This event, “Lafayette Strong: Unite. Honor. Heal.” will be held at Blackham Coliseum, 2330 Johnston St. on Thursday, July 30 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This event will be an effort to bring the Lafayette and Acadiana family together through an evening of healing.

The event is organized by Lafayette Consolidated Government, with support from UL Lafayette, Lafayette’s faith and arts communities and a multitude of other community stakeholders

Check out the Facebook Event Page here.

UPDATE: This event is FREE with ample parking. Mayor Durel will speak followed by musical performances by members of Bonsoir Catin, Steve Riley, David Greely, Kevin Wimmer, Kevin Naquin, Zachary Richard, Sonny Landreth, Roddie Romero, Curley Taylor, and the Destiny of Faith and Progressive Baptist Choir. All at Blackham.

UPDATE: For those unable to attend the “Lafayette Strong: Unite. Honor. Heal.” event, AOC will live stream the entire program on Thursday, July 30, from 7-8:30 p.m. Viewers can watch the community-wide healing event live on AOC’s website.

UPDATE: Acadiana Celebration of Life Join them to celebrate the lives of Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson.
This is an open invitation for any Lafayette area brass musicians to come together and parade downtown to help commemorate those lost and affected by the recent tragedy in our home town. Anyone old enough to look at a horn is welcome to join. Anyone wanting to come just for support is absolutely welcome as well. They will be playing at Blackham Coliseum on Thursday July 30th at 6pm before the Lafayette Strong event. Anyone planning on playing should arrive at 5:30pm. They will also be premiering a piece that was commissioned for the tragedy entitled “Élégie Acadienne” later in the evening. All proceeds will be donated to the families of those lost. Let’s come together and show everyone what Acadiana Love is all about. Also, after the LCG event VHS will be playing at the Feed and Seed. All proceeds are being donated as well and we’ll have donation jars setup through the night.
