RAGIN CAJUNS GAMER: Defense Stifles Coastal Carolina In Dominant Win

Posted by clintdomingue on November 7, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News
University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns
UL vs Coastal Carolina

This Cajuns team is something special right now. Only five days after a 31-3 victory over Texas State, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (7-2, 3-1 Sun Belt) put it all together and cruised to a 48-7 win over Coastal Carolina (4-5, 1-4 Sun Belt).

How It Happened

The Cajuns wasted very little time getting on the board, putting together a solid eight-play drive that ended with a six-yard run by Levi Lewis. Trey Ragas made it 14-0 late in the first quarter with a quick one-yard run into the end zone.

It remained a two-score contest until midway through the second quarter when Lewis connected with a wide-open Neal Johnson in the end zone. Stevie Artigue wrapped up the first half with a 21-yard field goal to take a 24-0 lead into the locker room.

The Cajuns started to run up the score in the third quarter with a pair of 10-yard touchdown passes to Jalen Williams and Ja’Marcus Bradley respectively. The final nail in the Chanticleers coffin came after a fumble recovery by Louisiana when Chris Smith put on the jets for a 52-yard touchdown run.

Big Number: 5

The Cajuns defense looked great throughout Thursday’s match-up on the verge of the program’s first shutout since 2012. One key number defensively was five tackles for loss. The front seven definitely worked hard to get the win for this team.

Player of the Game: Levi Lewis

The Scotlandville product unloaded against the Chanticleers defense, going 26-of-30 for 296 yards and three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. This is exactly what the Cajuns needed to see from their star QB in a crucial road game.

Next Up: November 16th vs South Alabama; Kickoff at 4 pm
