International Coastal Cleanup Day – Volunteer to Help

International Coastal Clean-up Day is Saturday, September 19.

Louisiana will have clean up sites along the coast between New Orleans to Lafayette. Local Lafayette organizations have announced that they will be assisting in cleaning Louisiana. Parish Proud and United Way of Acadiana are teaming up with several groups to clean up the Vermilion River.

Water flows downstream, not upstream. So this means anything Louisiana’s neighbors put into rivers and streams will flow into the southern region of our state and into the Gulf of Mexico. Loose debris and garbage can make its way into the watershed. Not only does this affect the natural beauty of the Vermilion River but contributes to flooding.

Volunteers are welcome to join this cleanup effort. Anyone wishing to help can register with Parish Proud on the Volunteer Center website. Be sure to bring your own litter toolkits.

Organizations involved with International Coastal Cleanup Day:

Coastal Wetlands Planning Protection and

Restoration Act, Teche Project,

Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana

Bayou Vermilion District

Acadiana Native Plant Project

Paddle the Gulf

Gulf of Mexico Alliance
