SIA This Is Acting (RCA) This Is Acting is the upcoming seventh studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Sia. The album was preceded by the release of the lead single, “Alive” on 24 September 2015. This Is Acting is Sia’s follow-up to her sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear (2014). Sia revealed details of This Is Acting for the first time in an interview published by NME in February 2015. In the article, she confirmed that work on the album was finished and that its content was “more pop” than her previous material and “I’m calling it This Is Acting because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go in thinking ‘this is something I would say’. It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.” Visit Sia’s website: http://siamusic.net
SIERRA HULL Weighted Mind (produced by Bela Fleck f/ Alison Krauss, Rhiannon Giddens & Abigail Washburn) (Rounder/CMG) Sierra Hull has been recognized from age 11 as a virtuoso mandolin-player, astonishing audiences and fellow-musicians alike. Now a seasoned touring musician nearing her mid-20s, Hull has delivered her most inspired, accomplished, and mature recorded work to date; no small feat. Weighted Mind is a landmark achievement, not just in Sierra Hull’s career, but in the world of folk-pop, bluegrass, and acoustic music overall. With instrumentation comprised largely of mandolin, bass, and vocals, this is genre-transcending music at its best, with production by Béla Fleck and special harmony vocal guests Alison Krauss, Abigail Washburn, and Rhiannon Giddens adding to the luster. Hull speaks eloquently, in her challenging and sensitive originals, her heartfelt vocals, and once again breaks new ground on the mandolin. Béla Fleck special guests on banjo on two tracks and duo partner, Ethan Jodziewicz, not only anchors the record on bass, but introduces us to a major new instrumental voice. WET Don’t You (Columbia) Wet, comprised of singer-songwriter Kelly Zutrau, and multi-instrumentalists Joe Valle and Marty Sulkow, make songs that resist easy categorization and invite every listener to bask in its intimate glow. But despite their wide-ranging sensibilities, Wet never compromises its core: sturdy pop songwriting and piercing lyrics. The nuanced singles “Deadwater” and “You’re the Best” were issued in 2015 as the band prepared their debut album release for Columbia. ‘Don’t You’ was almost entirely self-produced, was written during a period of solitude in a rented house in Western Massachusetts last year.
