EDWARD SHARPE & THE MAGNETIC ZEROS PersonA (Community)

With a more focused approach that gathered the whole band, by then a ten-piece, into a single room to write and record as a group, their 4th album, the PersonA LP is the ending result. It features cover art that redacted “Edward Sharpe and” with red lines, marking a rebranding to simply the Magnetic Zeros.

SAM BEAM (Iron & Wine) & JESCA HOOPLove Letter for Fire is the name of the collaborative record from songwriters Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) and Jesca Hoop.  A collection of songs steeped in the tradition of the male/female duet where love – in its many forms – takes center stage.  Love Letter for Fire (w/ Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche) (Sub Pop) The album features contributions from Wilco’s Glenn Kotche (drums, percussion), Robert Burger (keys), Eyvind Kang (violin, viola), Sebastian Steinberg (bass), and Edward Rankin-Parker (cello). Love Letter For Fire was produced, recorded and mixed by Tucker Martine (Modest Mouse, Decemberists, Neko Case) at Flora Recording & Playback in Portland, and mastered by Richard Dodd in Nashville. The album also features a cover photo by Sam Beam.

BRASS BED In The Yellow Leaf  (Modern Outsider)

After a long stint of touring, the band teamed with Chris Woodhouse, an engineer and producer best known for his work with Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees, to oversee initial recording sessions at the Loading Dock studios in Sacramento. Without much time to work, Brass Bed quickly channeled its road-honed live energy in pursuit of untethered fun and fury. The brasher approach served as a spiky backbone for the rest of Brass Bed’s new songs, and forcefully pushes the band toward messier uncharted territory.

In The Yellow Leaf also showcases Brass Bed’s sharpened songcraft, offering more variety from song to song.
