Donut lovers rejoice! Friday June 3rd is National Donut Day and our good friends over at Cajun Market Donut Company are celebrating. In honor of all our veterans, and for all the families of Acadiana, Cajun Market Donut Company will be giving away a free donut with no purchase necessary at all four of their locations.
National Donut Day commemorates the “donut lassies,” female Salvation Army volunteers who provided home-cooked meals, and of course, donuts, for soldiers on the front lines during WWI.
I found the history of National Donut Day very interesting- With limited resources, these treats were fried, only seven at a time. The Salvation Army’s Ensign Margaret Sheldon and Adjutant Helen Purviance cleverly thought of frying donuts in soldiers’ helmets.
Stop by one of Cajun Market Donut Company’s four shops and enjoy a delicious donut…. In Lafayette on Rue Louis XIV, and on Pinhook, Broussard, and Breaux Bridge.
Happy Donut Day!!
