Happy 15th Birthday Gamecube!

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a big fan of video games. I’ve played a bunch of the consoles, but there’s always been a spot in my heart for Nintendo. It’s always been a console of choice for me and I think that was solidified with the Nintendo Gamecube, which came out 15 years ago. I didn’t even realize it had been that long until after I was done with my show on Wednesday and I felt like I overlooked a part of my teenage years.

All through high school, I played a ton of great games on this underrated console. I’m not going to do a top ten list of games for the console because I haven’t played all of them, but here’s some of my personal favorites in no particular order.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

I’ve been a big fan of Super Smash Bros. ever since I played the original on the N64. But Melee refined upon what made the original great and made it the best edition, so much so that it’s been used for video game tournaments like EVO to this day. That’s a testament to how great this game still is.

Super Mario Sunshine

I’ve spent countless hours have been spent playing this game and have enjoyed every minute of it. It really showed what the Gamecube was capable of in presentation and was a little different in terms of gameplay, but at the end of the day, it worked. The only downside to it was the Pachinko level, which caused hours upon hours of frustration.

Madden 2004

As you undoubtedly know, I’m a big sports fan, especially football. That being said, in my opinion this is the best edition of Madden. The Playmaker button, an awesome franchise mode, and a whole lot of fun in terms of multiplayer.

WWE Day of Reckoning

I absolutely love this game. First off, it’s a wrestling game with very good controls. Secondly, it has a really good creative suite for it’s time (you could create your own logo!). And finally, the roster may be lacking, but at the end of the day the roster has some of the best that were in the business.

What are some of your favorite games for the Gamecube?
