Is There Too Many Reboots On TV?

Posted by clintdomingue on May 24, 2017 in Featured

David Lynch

We’re living in a golden age of TV, at least that’s what all the major execs are saying. While there are tons of quality TV shows being produced on cable TV (see: Brockmire, Mr. Robot, Game of Thrones), it seems that the TV industry is content to remake or reboot any old properties that were hits (see: The Odd Couple, Twin Peaks, Fuller House).

While the Twin Peaks reboot has been fun to watch, was it really necessary? If they hadn’t given away the main storyline in the second season, there’s a strong case to bring it back. In the same vein, you could say that Firefly should get another season despite them wrapping things up nicely with the feature film Serenity. Sometimes it’s best to let things stay in the time capsule.

Look at the TV show Roseanne, it was an iconic show because it fit with the time frame it aired during. Could it work in 2017? It seems like it will be entirely different because of the changing social and political climate. Also, Roseanne seems to be way different than when the show was airing in the 90s.

Based off of some of these revivals in recent years, the TV industry is following the suit of the silver screen as there’s several different reboots being worked on or already released. Do we really need another Charlie’s Angels movie?
