Morgan Reviews Games- Far Cry 4

So the year’s arguably biggest show in gaming, E3, came and went and while I felt it was mostly bust, there were a few games announced that got some excites out of me; Crackdown 3, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Anthem, and Skull & Bones. But it’s a game that was announced not long before E3 that possibly has me looking the most forward to, Far Cry 5. E3 saw 2 new trailers for the game, set to release Feb 2018. So in anticipation of that game, I’m reviewing Far Cry 4 now and will review Far Cry Primal in the months leading up to Feb.

Far Cry 4, from Ubisoft Montreal, was a lot of crazy, open-world, action/adventure fun for me. It had so many unexpected elements that I loved. It combines hunting and crafting with upgrades, different resource gathering, map exploring, flying and paragliding, a radio DJ that updates based on events you complete *I always love this feature for some reason ;)*, mountain climbing, pharmaceutical experimentation, and freeing a people from an insane dictator.

In it you play as Ajay Ghale who arrives in fictional Kyrat in the Himalayas in the middle of a civil war fought between the tyrannical king Pagan Min’s Royal Army and the rebels opposed to the king, the Golden Path. You meet lots of leaders from both sides and some neutral along the way. And most of them are interesting characters, most crazy in their own unique way, and as you would expect from interesting characters, the quests they send you on are pretty fantastic, most involving exploration, but a wide variety of quests, including protecting civilians, hunting challenges, finding missing people, racing challenges, saving prisoners and freeing territories, all as the difficulty increases and you gain new equipment and abilities. Or, just go exploring, climb mountains, hunt treasure, follow a series of brutal murders, and you can also drive, fly or parasail around and see the quite beautiful country of Kyrat.

You get a house that you can upgrade, it can have a garden, store vehicles and gives you a place to keep items and fast travel. Fast travel is necessary in Kyrat, the map is pretty huge once it’s all explored.

The variety of weapons and upgrades is nice, everything for range and close combat you need for any kind of job, the difficulty was fair and the controls were good, although every once in a while climbing a simple tower seemed a bit unnecessarily difficult, but nothing you can’t overcome with a bit of effort.

Adults only on Far Cry, there is a lot of inappropriate stuff going on in this one that I can’t really get in to here, but it’s super fun, of course, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Thinking of this game, in America, fighting alongside the rebels to a terrorist cult, and seeing some of the characters it appears you’ll be fighting alongside in the trailers, I’m really looking forward to next Feb. And if you’re interested in checking out the fun play style before then, Far Cry 4 can be found for as low as $11 pre-owned.

TL;DR: GTA5 and Assassin’s Creed 3 hooked up in the Himalayas, and had a baby they named, Far Cry 4.
