A 9-year-old Foo Fighters fan got to meet – and play for – Taylor Hawkins, just three days before he died

According to a CNN report, On March 22, a 9 year old girl set up her drum kit outside of the Foo Fighters’ hotel in Paraguay, hoping to catch the bands’ attention. Surrounded by other fans who were applauding her, her talent soon caught the ears of the late Taylor Hawkins, who came down to meet the young drummer.


Reportedly, Emma Sofia was the lucky fan who got the chance to meet Hawkins, just three days before his passing.

The CNN article stated that Emma and her parents had tickets for Asuncionico Festival in Paraguay. The festival was cancelled because of severe weather- but that didn’t stop Emma from trying to get the bands’ attention.


They family found out where the band was staying, so they packed up Emma’s drums and headed to the hotel. When they arrived, fans were already lined up outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the band.

From CNN, according to her father, Emma set up her drums and played for about 30 minutes, performing songs by Foo Fighters and Nirvana as the crowd cheered her on.

Before long, Hawkins heard the commotion and headed downstairs to meet the young drummer. First, he addressed the crowd and apoligized for the cancellation of the show, then he searched for Emma.


Fans pulled her out of the crowd to meet Hawkins and take a photo together.

Emma was speechless, her Father said. “She said that day was about to be the worst day of her life and suddenly turned into the best day of her life.” Peralta added.


When the news broke of Hawkins death, Emma was in the middle of a performance at a local restaurant. Her parents broke the news to her the next day, and like many fans, she was very upset.


In a post on Emma’s Instagram, the family wrote: “We will remember him for his charisma and the beautiful gesture he had with Emma. Taylor gave us something to believe in. He was, is and always will be an inspiration.”
