In my world, you can never have too many places to enjoy fried chicken. Out of curiosity, I stopped at what used to be Momma’s Fried Chicken on the Evangeline Thruway.
I always knew Momma was there and I never had the opportunity to stop and eat. From what I heard, Momma’s had really good fried chicken.
In the past weeks, I saw a lot of commotion happening at the restaurant, and I figured something else was going in there. I pass in front of the building every day coming to work.
Then I saw the sign “Cajun Fried Chicken” and I thought, any business who is bold enough to put Cajun in the name of their food business has got to have a really good recipe. Acadiana is unforgiving with food establishments who include the word Cajun or Creole in a name just to be some imitation.
When I notice a new food eatery opening up I normally give them a couple of weeks to get the systems and processes down and operating without too many errors or mistakes.
I decided to stop in on a Thursday evening. I was working late at the office and I was thinking about dinners. As I drove closer to Cajun Fried Chicken on the Thruway, I decided to detour from Thruway South and hit the cross street to 810 SE Evangeline Thruway. It was late, about 730 so the dinner rush was over.
I walked in and holy smokes, the menu is extensive from fried chicken to seafood to Cajun food. Yes, Cajun Fried Chicken has every size from family baskets to the 2 piece dinner. Wait, there is more, red beans dinner, white beans dinner and various seafood platters with fried shrimp, to oysters to fish. And when I say fried shrimp, I am not talking about the small breaded shrimp. I am talking about the large butterfly shrimp.
If you’re hungry for Lo Mein, Cajun Fried Chicken has it too along with a full menu of sides to include onion rings, fries, fried okra, egg roll, cheese sticks and more.
The menu is so extensive, I had no idea where to start. I knew this, I stopped in because of the chicken and I knew the chicken was on my menu one way of the other. I ended up ordering a shrimp and fish platter with fries and a 3 piece chicken dinner all dark meat.
In a matter of seconds, my order was ready! I was speaking to one of the workers and she was explaining to me how the restaurant came to be. This is the second venture for Cajun Fried Chicken. Their other location is located St. Martinville on 1706 S Main St, St Martinville, LA.
From the taste of the food to the cleanliness of the restaurant to the quick service and fair prices, it’s obvious Cajun Fried Chicken in Lafayette know what they are doing.
The fried chicken I had as seasoned better than most and I had a couple of shimp and fried fish and it was as delicious as the fried chicken. If you’re in a rush, you can call in your order ahead of time or order online.
I can’t wait to drop in again and try some of the Cajun dishes like the white beans and rice and the Lo Mien. There is so many items on the menu, I’ll have to make a couple of stops throughout the next couple of months to get my fill.
Delivery service is available and here are a couple of Google reviews and keep in mind Cajun Fried Chicken has only been open a couple of months.
This is my new restaurant. They have everything. Everything is made fresh and the wait time isn’t long at all. I wish I could give them 10 .
The place is very clean , the food was very fresh delicious and good service. I will going back.
the chicken was fresh and well seasoned unlike a lot of places that have their chicken sitting under a heat lamp, and the red beans tasted like soul food and I will definitely be back
