Google’s pod-like self driving car will be cruising the California roadways this summer. In lieu of a steering wheel, it uses a combination of radar and camera based sensor tech. With speed capped at 24 mph, the cars will mainly be navigating suburban areas.
Access to the general public is still at least 5 years out, but they would eventually like to run small pilot programs with their prototypes to see what people would like to do with one.
Can you imagine letting this capsule whisk you down Johnston Street during lunch hour? You couldn’t pay me enough… perhaps I’m too hasty with that pronouncement, it is Google after all – 5mil sound fair? (just puttin’ that out there)
