Horror Movie Icon and Visionary Wes Craven Passes Away At Age 76
Incredibly shocking and sad news as it’s being reported by multiple outlets that horror legend Wes Craven has passed away after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76 years old.
Wes Craven is known to the horror community for being the creator of Freddy Krueger of the A Nightmare On Elm Street series. He also brought us such classics as Last House On The Left,The Hills Have Eyes, The People Under The Stairs, Swamp Thing, the Scream films, and much more.
One my earliest childhood memories is of a Wes Craven film, A Nightmare Before Elm Street. I remember when my next door neighbor’s older sister had rented it on VHS. We were playing outside and were invited to go hang inside. We then we went in to play and then they locked the door and proceeded to make us watch this film… it was like the plot of a scary movie. Needless to say I was a very young at the time and freaked out of my mind when I saw the bloody body bag moving through the halls in the school so, I did what needed to be done… I ran home crying, LOL. Crazy stuff to watch when you are like 5 or 6 years old.
It wasn’t until years later, after growing up some, when I finally went back and decided to re-watch the film. It was only then when I could truly appreciate his genius in crafting a film that not only made you feel fright but laugh in some places as well. It has since become one of my favorite horror films… I even got Robert Englund to sign my DVD copy of it at a Comic-Con!
Wes Craven was a visionary director, screenwriter, actor and one of THE MASTERS OF HORROR. I share in the deepest condolences to his friends and family. He will be missed.
Rest easy now Wes… see you in our dreams & nightmares.
