Intern Maria with Live Shows 7/15-7/31

After reliving my childhood at Disney World for a week, reality welcomed me back with a runny nose and cough. I’m looking forward to get well soon so I can catch some of these shows! Here is a list of upcoming shows that will make summer 2015 one for the books.

This Wednesday, July 15th, George Porter & Runnin’ Pardners will be playing at the Horse Farm through Levitt AMP Lafayette Music Series at 6:30 PM. This show is located at 2913 Johnston St, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.
Quintessential New Orleans band George Porter, Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners are a favorite in Cajun country for their fusion of rock, funk and R&B. Best known as the bassist of highly influential funk band The Meters, George Porter, Jr. is one of the most prominent bass players in modern New Orleans music. During the course of a career spanning more then four decades, Porter has not only made a deep impression with his work in The Meters but has also notched session work with artists as diverse as Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett, David Byrne, Patti LaBelle, Tori Amos and more.

UL Lafayette student Ben Boone will be playing a gig this Thursday, July 16th at Daiquiris Supreme starting at 10:00 PM.

Capturing the belting rock elements of Gavin DeGraw and the softer, smoother components of Ray LaMontagne, Ben Boone creates his gratifying sound of soulful pop-rock with a touch of sweet satisfaction. His enticing yet edgy voice will surely give you the “goosies”, as said by the successful singer, actress, and American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez. Ben Boone participated in the thirteenth season of American Idol and also opened for the country/rock/blues singer and guitarist Corey Smith at the Krooked Nickel during Mardi Gras season.

Ray Boudreaux and Preston Pohl will be playing a show this Saturday, July 18th at Jefferson Street Pub. Advance tickets are $10 and can be purchased here : Tickets are also available at the door for $15. Doors open at 8:00 PM with the show starting at 9:00 PM.
Top 8 Finalist on NBC’s The Voice Season 5. Intertwined sparsely between Cajun French and Zydeco music Ray heard as a boy on a local Louisiana music station, Boudreaux found himself drawn to certain songs that were rich in blue-eyed soul singing, heavy handed with organs and saxophone solos, and it was this music, these 50’s and 60’s bayou soul love songs, or “Swamp Pop,” as the genre is referred to, onto which he latched himself.

Preston Pohl was also a season 5 contestant on the The Voice with Ray Boudreaux!

Brass Bed will also be playing at the Horse Farm through Levitt AMP Lafayette Music Series at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, July 22nd. This show is located at 2913 Johnston St, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.
Alternative music sensation Brass Bed brings their eclectic mix of indie, psychedelia and pop back to their hometown of Lafayette, La. Their most recent album, The Secret Will Keep You, released in 2013, dances between sunshine and sarcasm while showcasing their broad musical palette. Brass Bed’s reverb-heavy harmonies and guitar lines create a sound that is both ethereal and reminiscent of pop tunes of the 1960s and 1970s. Their layered psychedelic rock songs are raw and honest, capturing the anxiety and humor of life. The tracks for this labor of love were laid down live to tape during a single 10-day session with Danny Reisch at Public Hi Fi Studios in Austin, Texas.

My Morning Jacket will be playing a show Friday, July 31st at the Bold Sphere Music at Champions Square with the show starting at 7:30 PM.
My Morning Jacket formed at the tail-end of the 1990s, when Jim James’ group Month Of Sundays folded, and he began recording new songs with ex-members of local rockers Winter Death Club. At Above The Cadillac Studios – in reality, a shed on the grounds of guitarist Johnny Quaid’s grandparents’ farm – the group took shape, drawing upon their rich knowledge of classic rock, country, soul and psychedelia, and spinning these influences into fresh, life-affirming rock’n’roll and aching, haunting balladry.

Fasten your seatbelts for the Roots Music Concert featuring Rayo Brothers, Gina Chavez, and Sean Bruce all in one night on Friday, July 31st at Jefferson Street Pub! With an $8 cover, the doors open at 8:00 PM with the show kicking off at 9:00 PM with Rayo Brothers, Gina Chavez following at 10:00 PM, and ending the night with Sean Bruce at 11:00 PM!
The Rayo Brothers may be new to the scene, but music is in their blood. Brothers Daniel and Jesse Reaux hail from a musical family that includes Grammy-nominated Lost Bayou Ramblers and traditional Cajun bands. The brothers have struck a new path, infusing their folk and Gospel music roots with rock band enthusiasm and Daniel’s keen songwriting abilities. Featuring sibling harmonies and a variety of mostly acoustic instruments, and with the backing of drummer and mandolinist Lance Kelehan and bassist Jordan Ardoin, The Rayo Brothers put on a rollicking show that flows from raucous foot-stompers to intimate singer/songwriter tunes and everywhere in between. Offbeat Magazine says The Rayo Brothers “build a unique tapestry of Americana, lending a visceral edge missing from most folk throwback acts.”

Award-winning Austin singer/songwriter Gina Chavez is back with her sophomore studio album, Up.Rooted, released February 2014. Up.Rooted was produced by Michael Ramos, best known for his work with Patty Griffin and John Mellencamp. The album spans 11 diverse pan-Latin songs featuring Adrian Quesada, the Tosca String Quartet, the Grupo Fantasma horn section, David Pulkingham and Glenn Fukunaga, to name a few of the Austin all-star players.

Sean Bruce is an indie folk artist from Lafayette, LA. His musical influences include legends such as Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. He combines these melodic influences with the styles of writers like Ray Bradbury and Robert Frost. Armed with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica, Bruce has a great ability to combine story and song, which has garnered credit from Grammy Award winning songwriter, David Egan: “This is truly inspired, brilliant and beautiful.”

Make sure to support your local musicians and catch some of their upcoming shows! Till next time, this is Maria Pizzati-intern @1063RL signing off.
