Production on the long-awaited sequel to Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting starts today.
In celebration, Sony and TriStar dropped a throwback teaser trailer confirming the return of the original cast — specifically, Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller, and Ewen Bremner — and a release date of January 27, 2017.
Screenwriter John Hodge returned to the writing chair for the second go-around, delivering a script that urged both Sony Pictures co-chair Tom Rothman and TriStar president Hannah Minghella to green light the picture.
“It’s been 20 years since we met these characters,” Boyle stated earlier this year, “and John Hodge’s screenplay brilliantly explores what’s happened to them — and to us — in the intervening years. We are grateful to Tom and Hannah for their support and we can’t wait to get going.”
