LSU Beats Lamar Behind Bianco Blast

Posted by clintdomingue on April 23, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

After a big series win over the Florida Gators, LSU kept it rolling with a 5-3 win over Lamar to snap a midweek losing streak that many Tigers fans are glad has come to an end.

How It Happened:

The Tigers broke things wide open in the bottom of the second when Drew Bianco drilled one out to left-center field for a three-run home run.

The Cardinals cut away at the lead in the fifth when Robin Adames hit a solo shot to lead off the inning. LSU quickly responded though with a pair of sac flys by Brock Mathis and Josh Smith made it a 5-1 ballgame. Lamar just wouldn’t go away when Cole Coker hit an RBI single in the sixth to make it 5-2. Devin Fontenot came on to get the save but wound up allowing a run when he hit a batter with the bases loaded after getting the first two outs with relative ease. Fontenot calmed down though and struck out the next batter to record his fourth save of the season.

Big Number: 4

It’s crazy to think that the Tigers only had four hits last night and still came away with a win, especially after how some other midweek games have gone for them. That being said, this was much needed.

Player of the Game: Drew Bianco

Bianco without a doubt was the most impactful player in the midweek matchup thanks to a big three-run home run. It’s great to see him come into his own as the regular season wraps up.

Next Up: Friday at Alabama; First Pitch at 6 pm
