New Music Wednesdays: Check Out New Tracks from Jack Johnson, Vance Joy, and More!

It’s the middle of the week and you’re feeling that midweek malaise so why not spice it up with a look at what’s new in the world of music? Welcome to 106.3’s New Music Wednesdays, a weekly look at some of the new music we’re spinning here on Acadiana’s home for alternative as well as new albums that are dropping this week.

Jack Johnson “One Step Ahead”

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten some new music from Jack Johnson and here’s the first track off of his upcoming album Meet the Moonlight, which is being released on June 24th. It has the classic Jack Johnson sound to it but also has a good bit of polish to it thanks to the collab with big-time producer Blake Mills.

Johnson also announced a lengthy world tour and you can check out the tour dates here.

Soccer Mommy “Shotgun”

In a song that hearkens back to the 90s with it’s grungy sounding guitars, Soccer Mommy returns to the music world with “Shotgun” as part of her third album Sometimes, Forever which drops on June 24th. When you listen to this album and her sophomore effort Color Theory, which released just before the pandemic changed everything and you can feel that tonal shift.

Vance Joy “Clarity”

The Aussie strikes again with an earworm off his third album In Our Own Sweet Time, releasing June 10th. It’s a clear departure from his signature song “Riptide”, but it’s still extremely catchy and when you collab with a singer-songwriter like Joel Little you can definitely expect this song to move up towards the top of the charts sooner rather than later.

New Albums Dropping This Week

Kurt Vile (watch my moves), April 15th  – The first full-length album for Vile on his new record label has a new lo-fi type of sound to it and on his single “Like Exploding Stones”, it all flows together.

Jewel Freewheelin’ Woman, April 15th – It’s been seven long years since we last heard from one of Alaska’s finest and she’s ready to let loose with what’s been called her most unbridled body of work to date. She even has a track that features Train called “Dancing Slow”.
