Scientists are working on a way to save lives using pigs.
According to an article posted by AP News, researchers are experimenting with implanting pig kidneys into a human. Surgeons in Alabama are testing the procedure using genetically modified pigs. The human involved in the experiment reportedly was a donated body and has no brain activity.
If the test trials are successful, the article states that this procedure could solve the organ shortage crisis.
Recently, doctors in Maryland transplanted a pig heart in a man who was facing death. Reports stated that this man was not eligible for a human heart so decided to proceed with the surgery. So far, the pig is keeping him alive.
