So Fresh and So Louisiana!

This week on Lundi Love, we are showing some love to a local farmer’s market that offers up more than just fresh fruits and veggies.

Fresh Pickin’s Produce Market is a farmer’s market located on Kaliste Saloom Road. This place is great! It is full of lots of different varieties of apple, oranges, grapes, squash and more. Whatever is in season, you can find it here fresh or frozen. This place offers more than just fresh avocados, crisp cucumbers and different kinds of rice (wild, brown, long-grain or par-boiled). They also sell lots of Louisiana made products. Local seasoning, local oil, local spaghetti sauce, noodles, honey and more. You can even buy fruit trees and plants for the garden. Fresh Pickin’s gives small local companies a place to sell their product.

Fresh Pickin’s holds a food festival every Spring. Local vendors set up a table inside the market and offer free samples of their product. There is usually a band playing with door prizes. I like this event because I get a chance to try something new and different that tastes homemade. Some of these vendors travel from all over the state including some from Baton Rouge, Breaux Bridge, and Ville Platte. This past festival they had samples of meat pies, jerky, biscuits, crab bisque, meatballs, gumbo jambalaya, soup starters and more. Even the owners of Jack Millers Barbecue Sauce had a table serving up meatballs. And in fact, every year they travel to Lafayette from Ville Platte to let people try their spicy sauce. If there is something that you like you can find it on the shelf at Fresh Pickin’s. It feels good to buy something locally made in Louisiana. You feel like you are helping out your friend or neighbor.

Thanks to Fresh Pickin’s, I have discovered products that I cannot find anywhere else.
