Crawfish have been a rare expensive treat so far in 2024. The first few weeks of the season have been dismal with a harvest about 9% of what’s typical, and prices in the $13.00 per pound range. There is some good news. It’s not great news, but it’s not more gloom and doom. Agriculture commissioner Mike Strain says things have improved somewhat, with harvest levels doubling to18% of what’s usual over the past two weeks, and a 17% drop in prices. He say March & April will be crucial to this year’s crawfish season. Warmer weather is expected the final week of February. That should raise the mudbug’s activity level. Keep yor fingers crossed. You may be able to enjoy some crawfish this season after all.
