The Launch Box featuring Crosses (†††)

Crosses is a side-project of Deftones singer Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez from the band Far, often represented with 3 cross symbols (†††) instead of the actual word. Their sound has been often referred to as electronic, darkwave or dark pop, dream pop, or “witch house.”
Both Moreno and Lopez come from bands that are much heavier musically, and took this side-project opportunity to focus on the more soothing side of their respective groups. Crosses sound emphasizes and isolates the ideas that made their bands stand apart from the rest of the pack, emphasizing mood and melody over raw aggression.
In 2011, Moreno announced that they had finished a number of tracks and had plans to self-release them as a series of EPs. 2011 saw the release of “†” (aka: “Crosses 1”) for free on August 2, with a higher quality version for purchase on their website. They released “††” (aka: “Crosses 2”) the following year.
If you like video games, you may recognize “The Years” from the Batman: Arkham City soundtrack, or their song “Telepathy” from the Need for Speed: Most Wanted soundtrack.
Though there were plans for a third Crosses EP, Moreno put Crosses temporarily on hold while he concluded work with Deftones. In 2014 Crosses’ first full-length self-titled album (“†††”) was released, which contained remastered versions of all songs from the previous two EPs as well as five new tracks (essentially, what would have been the third EP), one of them being The Epilogue.
