This morning the news spread quickly via social media, calls and text messages that Taco lost his battle with cancer and passed away in the early hours. Luis “Taco” Flores was a true earth bound angel. He has touched the lives of so many people and everyone he came into contact with was a friend-he never met a stranger. I first met him at Spanish Villa when I was a kid. He was my favorite waiter-so nice and always smiling! I’d ask my parents to request him as our server. Once I got into high school, guess who was the first person I saw on my first terrifying day was? and who showed me around and made sure I found my classes? Yes, that angel, Taco. When I returned to Lafayette from Phoenix in the early 90’s, my first radio family included Chuck Wood, Bobby Novosad, Cheryl Robicheaux, Caroline Kennedy, and TACO!!! Wow- there he was again. Whether it was hauling the Giant Jam Box, being a designated driver, bringing me food , giving advice or being a shoulder to cry on-Taco was there to help & look out for me. He was the epitome of selfLESSness. Always a giver , never a taker. Years went by and in 2010 I worked with him again until a month ago. I’ll always remember his famous bark that would have me laughing until I cried. Rest in peace my dear friend, co-worker and Angel . You are so loved and will be missed. Luis “Taco” Flores 6/5/67-11/17/15.
