Welcome everyone to an extremely late edition of Top Five Fridays! Life’s what happens when you’re busy making other plans am I right?
Festival International is coming up and this year has a litany of great artists that you need to check out. In this edition of Top Five Fridays, I’ll run through five artists that are at the top of my list to go see perform live.
#5 Amythyst Kiah
Her vocals are amazing and she is definitely one artist that you need to keep an eye on. It’ll be more of an acoustic affair, but it works considering how low-key the final day of Festival is and this is one of the last acts at the TV5 Monde Lafayette stage. Can’t wait to hear the Nashville artist bring her blues sound to the Acadiana area.
#4 Frigg
No, it’s not an alternative use for a certain word it’s actually referring to the goddess Frigg who has been described as the wife of Odin in Germanic mythology. Didn’t think you’d actually learn about Germanic Mythology here huh?
Anyway, I don’t mind hearing some folk music, especially from another culture. Just make sure that you wake up early to see them on Saturday as they’ll be kicking things off at 9 am at Scene Laborde Earles Fais Do Do.
#3 Ibibio Sound Machine
It took about five seconds into hearing their song “Give Me A Reason” to make a decision that I wanted to see them perform. The electronic beats in the song got me into the right mood and really got me thinking about how many groups I’ve seen like them and I came to the decision that there’s no one quite like them that I’ve seen live.
Seriously, if you have a chance to check them out on Friday, make it a point to do so.
#2 Making Movies
A rock band out of Kansas City, Missouri makes the Top Five because of their numerous influences and they have a sound similar to artists like Muse. You add the rhythmic beats that you might hear on the beaches of Colombia and it’s going to be a good time. They’ll be one of the last bands on Saturday at TV5 Monde and it’ll be well worth it to stay out and see them.
#1 Dockside All-Star Hall of Fame
The GIVERS, Marc Broussard, and Lost Bayou Ramblers are amongst the final performers of the festival. Need I say more? They always save the best for last and this is the equivalent of an All-Star game that fans of local music need to see.
