Utility Bill Assistance

We all need a little help sometimes. I know first hand about, robbing Peter to pay Paul. What happens when both need to be paid and you don’t have the money? I have been there. Life happens. Sometimes it happens and leaves you holding the bills with no way to pay them.

Smile Community Action agency has been helping some families pay energy bills for 50 years, through the low-income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP)
This program provides direct payments to home energy suppliers on behalf of eligible households, particularly the elderly and disabled.

The Smile Community Action Agency will open their appointment line for utility bill assistance, Wednesday, May 22, 2019. The number to call is 855-806-9645. This is for residents in Lafayette, St. Martin and Iberia parishes only.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, provides states with funds to help those in financial need to pay their energy bills. The program received $3.65 billion in funding for fiscal 2019 and aids residents in all 50 states through block grants.
