30 years ago, Nirvana took to the stage at the OK Hotel in Seattle and debuted the now iconic “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
“This song is called ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit'” Kurt Cobain announced before launching into the guitar riff that arguably put the grunge movement in the mainstream music scene.
The band was just weeks away from starting the recording sessions at Sound City Studios for ‘Nevermind’ when they decided to take the song out for a test drive.
Cobain later said the song came to fruition when he “was trying to write the ultimate pop song.”
‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ has since gone on to have over 1.25 billion views on YouTube!
