Amazon has won approval from the FAA to test drones outdoors, in hopes of eventually using them for package delivery. Currently they are testing over rural land in Washington state, and must stay below 400 feet. The drone operators must have a private pilot license and medical certification.
Amazon’s new program has been dubbed “Prime Air” and they are working on developing drones that fly at speeds of 50 miles per hour, operate autonomously and sense and avoid objects. Amazon also is working with NASA on an air-traffic management system for drones.
Sounds interesting, what do you think of the idea? -Mandi@1063RL
