Time To Start A Dream Journal, Here’s Why!

For the last month or so, many Americans are adhering to a Stay At Home order to minimize the spread of COVID-19. In other words, we are under quarantine. Many of us are spending more time at home and spending less time roaming the city. For some, we could be experiencing a type of cabin fever. Restless with nothing to do but clean the house, cook a meal and watch tv. According to research, cabin fever could lead to intense vibrant longer-lasting dreams.

So with the Stay At Home order being extended for another month, it appears that these crazy weird dreams are here to stay for now. These dreams can be used to your advantage, besides talking points over coffee. Psychologists recommend that you start to write down your dreams and created a dream journal. You never know, after this COVID-19 crisis is over, you could use these dreams to write a book and make millions. It is rumored that that author Stephanie Meyers was inspired to write the Twilight Series from a dream she had one night.

Here are some reasons to write down and journal your dreams, according to an article by Dr. Kelly Bulkeley, M.D., in Psychology Today.

First of all, when you start an actual ‘dream journal’ you are forcing yourself to pay attention to sleep. Sleep is more important now than ever. Sleep recharges your body, strengthening your immune, making it able to fight off infections. When you keep track of your dreams, you become aware of your sleep patterns and also become aware of what disrupts your sleep, ultimately getting a more restful night’s sleep.

Secondly, a dream is a way your mind processes fear, stress. confusion and anxiety. Vivid dreams are your brain’s response to a stressful situation. If you pay attention to your dreams, you will able to figure these emotions out and see how your body is responding to the situation at hand.

And finally, dreams restore a sense of hope, especially during a dire situation. It is easy to get caught up in news headlines and major catastrophes happening around the world. Dreams allow you to explore an inner world and a part of yourself that you may have forgotten about. When you pay attention and write down these dreams, the symbols in that crazy dream will serve as clues on how to work out problems troubling you in your waking life.
