Limewire Is Back – But As an NFT Marketplace

A sign saying “NFT FOR SALE HERE,” is seen in a small storefront that hosts digital art collecting platform Neon’s first in-person non-fungible token (NFT) vending machine in Lower Manhattan’s financial district of New York City, U.S., March 1, 2022. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid

If you’re of a certain age, you definitely used Limewire. It was a very different time on the internet and Limewire was a highlight but also the bane of existence for computers.

Admit it, we all at one point remember that time thinking we downloaded that song everyone was listening to but instead got a nice little virus that destroyed the family computer.

Well, Limewire’s officially back but not in the way you may think (sorry to those who thought we’d be getting free MP3s from there again). Now the former P2P file-sharing program is getting into the world of NFTs.

LimeWire_is_back_for_good.mp3#LimeWire returns in full power, with high-profile #NFT drops from the world’s best-selling artists.

The ad promoting the return of the service references one of the big success stories of the service with Soulja Boy’s smash hit “Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)”, which became a viral sensation thanks to the fact that several files on the website were incorrectly labeled and when you’d download it, it would be that song instead.

LimeWire’s new team, led by co-CEOs Paul Zehetmayr and Julian Zehetmayr are looking to drastically improve user experience, offering credit card payments, and handling gas fees as well as technical hurdles on behalf of its users. In an homage to their old service, there will be a focus on audible digital art like music.
