Lafayette’s Rock and Alternative 106.3 wants to help you look back at the best events, music, news stories, and more from the rock and alternative genre.

Each week, we will bring you a list of major events from history that opened in our music scene.

Let’s dive in!

April 21

1967 – The Beatles finished recording Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band at Abbey Road Studios in London.

April 22

1991 – The Dave Matthews Band played their first live show at the Earth Day festival in Charlottesville, Virginia.

April 23

1994 – Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell topped the chart in the U.S., spending nearly a month in the top spot.

April 24

1996 – After being forced to cancel shows, Stone Temple Pilots issued a statement saying that lead singer Scott Weiland has “become unable to rehearse or appear for these shows due to his dependency on drugs. He is currently under a doctor’s care in a medical facility.” Weiland sees this as a betrayal, and his relationship with his bandmates turns rocky.

April 25

1994 – Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys was sentenced to 200 hours of community service for attacking a TV cameraman during the memorial services for actor River Phoenix the previous November.

April 26

1994 – Live released their third album, Throwing Copper. Recorded with producer Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, it is the band’s best-selling release. Singles include “Selling the Drama,” “I Alone,” “Lightning Crashes,” “All Over You,” and “White, Discussion.”
