2022 – Depeche Mode keyboardist Andy Fletcher died at age 60. Fletcher was a founding member of the band which found success with their dark electronic sound and hits including ‘Personal Jesus’.
May 27
2006 – Red Hot Chili Peppers started a two-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. album chart with Stadium Arcadium, the band’s ninth studio album.
May 28
1973 – Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon was on both the U.S. and U.K. album charts. It remained in the U.S. charts for 741 discontinuous weeks from 1973 to 1988, longer than any other album in history.
May 29
1971 – The Rolling Stones accomplished the rare feat of having both the No. 1 album, Sticky Fingers, and No.1 single, “Brown Sugar,” simultaneously in the U.S.
May 30
2007 – A leaked copy of the new White Stripes album Icky Thump was played completely on Chicago’s radio station Q101-WKQX. Jack White personally called the station from Spain, where he was touring, to voice his displeasure.

1982 – I.R.S. Records announced it had signed the Athens, Georgia-based quartet R.E.M., with news of the band’s forthcoming debut EP, Chronic Town, to be released on August 24 of that year, along with plans for a full-length release to follow in 1983
