I had no idea this existed… A failed Clerks: The Sitcom

Posted by Matt on August 3, 2015 in Featured

clerks not for tv

I’m a fan of Kevin Smith and his 1994 debut film Clerks. Well, in 1995, it turns out that there was also TV pilot for a Clerks: The Sitcom. I had no idea that this even existed and it should have more than likely stayed that way, LOL! It’s Clerks, also known as “Saved by the Clerks”, being that it’s shot like “Saved by the Bell” and it’s a drastic change from the vulgar and raunchy movie that we all know and love. Gone are the movie’s iconic drug dealers Jay and Silent Bob who were replaced with a ice-cream server played by Rick Gomez (“Endless” Mike) from Pete and Pete… which was a surprise to see. One of the saving graces is Jim Breuer as ‘Randal Graves’ who does a decent job of annoying customers in the video store.

As you can already tell, Kevin Smith had nothing to do with the pilot because he was busy with his 2nd film, Mallrats. Thankfully, Disney didn’t go ahead to produce it… however, they did produce a Clerks: The Animated Series in the early 2000’s before it got canned after 2 broadcast episodes. I happen to own that animated series on DVD and it’s pretty funny to break out and watch every now and again.
