If you ask me, I’ll say the same thing every time… Favorite gaming system of all time, hands down, it’s the Super Nintendo. Sure I’m a 90s kid, but nostalgia aside, it was a great system. Some of the most well known and beloved franchises were built and refined on the SNES.
And no, I don’t own the NES Classic, because THIS is the one I am waiting for…
Here are 4 reasons why the SNES Classic is so worth it:
1. It will be pre-loaded with a library of timeless gems from Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby Superstar, Final Fantasy III (sorry my inner nerd is forcing me to type VI), Castlevania IV, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World, Super Metroid… *phew* and that’s just to name a few!
2. The controller cables aren’t stupid. They’re longer than the NES Classic thankfully, around five feet long instead of three… well ok that’s still short, but at least they tried. We’ll probably see some wireless ones come out for it anyway, so who cares!
3. HOLY CRAP we’re getting a game that’s never been released before – Star Fox 2! The sequel was canned before release because the PlayStation and the Sega Saturn had upped the bar for 3D graphics. Now, years later, we finally get to play it!
4. Just like it’s predecessor, it features an HDMI connection, allowing you to easily play your retro games on any high-definition tv.
On a side note – Something that means a lot to me about this particular nostalgia-capitalizing classic system is the inclusion of my favorite game of all time, Secret of Mana. It was the first game compelled me to reach 100% completion. Like… I would have a PHD in “Secret of Mana-ology”, if such a thing existed. That game became a part of my life. I went back to upgrade every weapon to max level by finding every secret orb, I maxed my magic casting level on both mages, even with the lesser important summons… I even sought out every glitch, and can probably quote every bit of dialogue from the game. It was the first game I fell in love with.
If you grew up with SNES like I did, I know you probably have a special game like that too, and I hope it made the list as well. If you want to check out what else will be pre-loaded on the SNES Classic, click here.
The SNES Classic systems will be arriving in stores September 29th for $79.99, but you should probably pre-order one… judging by how hard it was to get the NES one last year.
