Morgan Reviews – Assassin’s Creed: Origins

Posted by morganpierce on March 17, 2018 in Featured

I’ve been a big fan of the Assassin’s Creed series since the beginning. If you’ve ever taken a look at my bio… you know I’m a history buff and I also am a fan of the parkour, so a video game that brings that together with getting to bring an end to the worst of humanity, sign me up. The Italian Renaissance Trilogy with AC2 , AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations were my favorites, but I also loved AC1, AC3, AC:BF, AC Unity and even Assassin’s Creed Liberation which was one of the lesser played, although it came to console, it was originally developed for PSP, so it wasn’t ever a full game, I particularly enjoyed that one because it took place in New Orleans with a female, Creole protagonist.

AC Origins takes place in ancient Egypt, you play as Bayek, last of the Medjay, sort of ancient paramilitary force over the Pharaoh’s interests. You get to meet some historic characters, but my favorite part has to be seeing the cities and exploring the pyramids, there was even a game mode for just touring around and getting information on the locations.

AC:O was huge and immersive and beautiful and exactly the type of direction I’d hope to see them go, further into the past, but bigger and deeper than ever before. There are a few abilities in and on the water I like seeing carried over from AC:BF, the running and combat style and hunting has been getting better and better, especially since AC3, and the story is rich and holds your interest, like Brotherhood.

Unlocking new territory and learning how to move through to area where you can operate might take a minute, and the map really is so huge, you’d better know if you have the time before you take off into a new adventure or searching a new pyramid.

Some of the characters you get to meet are some of the most famous in history, and as always, AC gives us that raw, realistic, human side of these figures. And the AC story with the golden apple and such isn’t overwhelming as it can be in some AC games.

There’s DLC and Boss Battles and lots of stuff I don’t have the space to get into here, but all in all, gonna have to say if you’re into the Assassin’s Creed series, this is a great one. I’m a little sad I don’t get to play Hide and Go Seek in the ancient pyramids in Giza, but some things just aren’t meant to be…yet.

TL;DR: Ancient Egypt, big historical figures, hardcore parkour, saving goodies, ending baddies.
