Morgan Reviews – The Orville
This is my first review of a series in it’s first season, so it’s less of a review and more of- what I think so far.
The Orville is a new live-action comedy series from Seth MacFarlane and FOX. And it’s also kind of a Star Trek parody. When I first heard that this series was happening, I thought it sounded too good to be good. I’m a big fan of Seth McFarlane, his sense of humor, his musical talents, it doesn’t hurt that he’s handsome and fit…yes, there is definitely some celebri-crush there, but I won’t let it affect my review. I would honestly recommend this show to almost anyone.
If you’re a fan of McFarlane or Star Trek, you will probably like this show, if you’re not a fan of either of those but appreciate a good comedy or sci-fi, you will still probably like The Orville. I feel like the writers have done a great job so far of making it a heart-filled comedy, that just happens to be set in unexplored space in the future, so they get so many story options with aliens, new cultures, Artificial Intelligence and whatever else they can think up.
And I’m not kidding when I say heart-filled, it can make you laugh, but it still takes on big emotional issues. Boldly going…into challenging topics, and space.
CBS also began airing Star Trek: Discovery in September, which is also very good, though it’s nothing like the previous series, which is good, it should be different and it’s own thing. But I’m still very nostalgic for my old Star Treks, especially my TNG (The Next Generation), and I feel like we get the essence of TNG in The Orville, but in a comedy, which for me, only makes it better.
Check it out Thursday nights on FOX.
TL;DR: Great series so far, that’s equal parts comedy/sci-fi/heart.
