The Launch Box featuring Coast Modern
If you like:
Coast Modern is a duo from Los Angeles that are just breaking into the L.A. music scene. Their music is commonly described as indie pop or synth hop, but incorporates many genres. Members Coleman Trapp and Luke Atlas got their start in the music industry writing songs for A-listers, but have recently broken off to form their own group.
“Hollow Life” is Coast Modern’s first single release. It has a “California laid back sound”, with cool sound effects and a catchy hook.
It took a while for the the duo to find the sound they wanted, but eventually it developed for them organically. The band has said that ‘Hollow Life’ was one of the first songs they made where they had no agenda and were just playing around in the moment trying to make something they genuinely liked. According to Washington Square’s interview with Coleman Trapp, “If there was any kind of formula, it would be taking a moment and being like, ‘What do we want to make? What are we feeling today?’ And it could be a totally chilled out track or something angsty.”
Here is a video of them performing “Hollow Life” live.
