Welcome to this week’s Launch Box featuring Mansionair
If you like Chvrches, Soak, Sam Beam
Sydney synth-pop trio Mansionair began weaving their web of glistening whisper-pop with the release of their 2014 debut EP Hold Me Down through Chvrches Goodbye Records imprint.
Having previously opened for Chvrches, they recently wrapped a sold-out tour of their home country of Australia and are currently playing shows with Foals and Django Django.
They’ve quickly become one of the most talked about artists since the release of their song, “Hold Me Down,” which has amassed over 8.5 million views on Youtube and quickly ran up the HypeMachine charts where it peaked at the coveted #1 spot. As Earmilk describes,
“’Hold Me Down’ is truly infectious with its soaring vocals, creating an echoed, mellowed-out ride that manages to warm your earlobes…”
They’ve since signed to indie label Glassnote (GIVERS, Half Moon Run, Panama Wedding, Baio, Mumford & Sons) Of the signing, Mansionair states,
”We’re really excited to be joining the Glassnote family. We couldn’t imagine a better team to be involved with. We’ve been such big fans of their roster for a long time and can’t wait to get started.”
Their latest EP Pick Me Up was released in October. It’s available now on iTunes and Spotify.
The title track bridges the gap between acoustic and electronic sounds seamlessly. Soft, understated piano carried gently over the beat by haunting yet breathtaking vocals.
Stereogum describes the album’s lead single “Speak Easy” as evoking the same foggy tenderness of say, William Fitzsimmons or Sam Beam, but spiking it with surging electronic production and airy percussion.
