In case you missed it, last month Weezer made headlines by covering Toto’s “Africa” in response to a year-long outcry from a fan who both loved Weezer, and discovered the 80s tune through numerous 80s pop culture references in the show Stranger Things.
Even more recently, they performed the cover live on Jimmy Kimmel! The best part… at about 2:45 Rivers Cuomo invites Steve Porcaro, Toto’s keyboardist, onstage to play the keyboard solo… it’s magical <3 I grew up listening to the original song, and I lived my teens listening to Weezer. This cover feels so good – it makes me feel the nostalgia on multiple levels spanning almost every chapter of my life, and I hope it brings you that same joy!
