I’m all about customization… but with IKEA’s latest digital design tool, creating your own couch can be as fun as playing Minecraft!
Apparently you can create ANY design for your couch whatsoever, with pretty much no rules or restrictions. So even if you want a couch that spirals inside of itself… that’s totally do-able… but expensive if you get too silly with the options. Twitter users have had a blast with this, posting their couch monstrosities, everything from a couch fortress, to couches that are shaped to spell out the word “couch”… not that anyone actually wants that in their home… it’s just fun to use create-a tools to make absurd furniture that’s too expensive to buy.
Good luck getting air-lifted into my $6.5k dream couch-ception, with no acceptable way to enter like a normal person… nope! You better start training at the gym to get into this bad boy on your own. I’m thinking I would put two TVs in the center so you could see no matter where you sit. Or maybe IKEA should come up with a cube TV with screens on all 4 sides… or maybe a sphere-shaped TV! I think my design caters toward the fitness oriented, as it offers an arduous journey to the center of the couch!
My creation was on the cheaper side of what people have created and posted to twitter. Some twitter users really enjoyed and embraced the IKEA chaos, with more unconventional couch designs exceeding $15,000!
On a side note… does anyone else find it a little weird that IKEA sells frozen meatballs and other food? I mean, that’s cool… but ummmm… what??
So whether you’re in the market for a brand new couch, feeling weird and creative, or just want an alternative to Mario Maker and Minecraft… go play with IKEA’s planning tools and create the couch fortress of your dreams… and maybe even buy it if it’s not like a million dollars.
