Beavis and Butt-Head Is Getting a Reboot

Beavis and Butt-Head are BACK – But this time on Comedy Central!

If you grew up in the 90s, you probably remember these two delinquent teenage couch-potatoes fondly. I remember back in middle school, the show was a kind of benchmark as to how cool your parents were… If they were really cool like mine, they’d be willing to let their 10-year-old sit with them and watch it. It was crude, lewd, and way ahead of its time. The other kids who were allowed to watch it would talk about it during recess, and because not everyone was allowed, it was like this cool taboo that you could bond over. It was very similar to your parents letting you watch rated R movies. Even for as controversial as the show was, it educated those watching in a way, as it was satirical, scathing commentary on society. It also featured popular MTV music videos of that era, many of which I remember vividly because of Beavis and Butt-Head’s MST3K-type commentary over the videos. It also cultivated my love of rock and metal. To this day, it is one of my favorite animated series of all time. The first 7 seasons that I grew up with aired from 1993-1997 on MTV, and there was a movie too. In 2011 they made the eighth season, which in my opinion fell short because MTV had changed its programming, and instead of music videos, they commentated over less entertaining media, like Jersy Shore for example.

Fast forward to 2020, an official reboot is announced! It might be the best news I’ve heard all year! To make things even better, it has found a more suitable home on Comedy Central. The original series creator Mike Judge will once again write, produce, and voice the show, aiming to introduce it to new fans who didn’t grow up watching it, while still keeping it relatable to fans of the original show. So far, there is no information on when the series will debut, but it sounds like both Mike Judge and Comedy Central are excited about it. I personally can’t wait. I grew up with these two characters in a completely different world from the one we live in now. I can’t wait to see how they evolve… or if they evolve.
