Ever wanted to play your favorite 8-bit NES classics in 3D?
In case you didn’t know… I’m a HUGE FAN of old-school videogames, and have been dying for some remakes of a few of my childhood faves.
Well GUESS WHAT?? …There’s an app for that! LOL
It’s called the 3DNes Emulator, a new browser app that somehow magically transforms classic 8-bit games into polygonal 3D dioramas. You can check out a trailer featuring a 2.5D Super Mario Bros. above.
Here’s another trailer featuring Contra, Mega Man, Zelda II, Super Mario Bros. 3,Castlevania and a few other golden oldies.
Looking at the above video, it seems some games seem to work better with 3DNes Emulator than others. Zelda II and Castlevania looks fantastic, almost like official 2.5D remakes, while Mario 3 is just a bit rough. It’s still pretty cool to watch the sprite effects give new life to games we know and love.
You can even play your 3D-ized NES classics in FIRST-PERSON mode…?? HOLY HELL THAT’S COOL!
You can check out 3DNes Emulator right here, although, for whatever reason, the program only works in Firefox. Of course, you’ll also have to find your own NES ROMs.
