Morgan Reviews: Stranger Things Season 2

Season 1 of the Netflix Original series Stranger Things was such a cool surprise; retro without being another remake, original while still staying familiar enough. The second season came out on Netflix Halloween weekend and that’s really appropriate because the Duffer Brothers really upped the spooky factor this year.

Season 1 spoilers, go watch it if you don’t want spoilers…I’ll wait…

Now that you’ve watched…Stranger Things S2 starts where S1 left off, Eleven is alive and well being taken care of by Hopper, just as the S1 closing scene lead us to believe.

The boys still don’t know she’s alive though, so Mike is all pre-teen angst-y. Sha Dustin is starting to come into his own in this season, and the duo that is created in his transition is one of my new favorite duos, you’ll see… The boys dress up for Halloween at school, leading to some pretty excellent/funny scenes.

There are about 4 new characters, two funny, two serious, all adding interesting side stories along the way.

Eleven gets to go on a side mission to look into her past, her biological mother and one of her ## sisters from the “power company” and she also gets a really bad-butt make-over and maybe a bit of an upgrade.

Last season, the Duffer Brothers said their main theme they pulled from was D&D, the new season pulls from a few genres, video games, tv shows, movies, epic 80s duos and more. There’s lots of behind-the-scenes and inside look stuff available on another Netflix series, Beyond Stranger Things.

I’m a fan of this series, fun, nostalgic, spooky without being over the top. Season 2 ended setting the series up for a third season, and I’m excited for more…just shy of a year from now.

TL;DR: Goonies meets Ghostbusters meets Stand by Me meets Dig Dug meets… ALL THE STUFF FROM THE 80s.
