New Orleans Pelicans Will Pick First In 2019 NBA Draft

Posted by clintdomingue on May 14, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

Heading into Tuesday’s NBA Draft Lottery, the odds for the New Orleans Pelicans to secure the top pick in the NBA Draft were pretty slim. To be more precise, there was a six percent chance for the team to pull that off.

Against all odds, the Pelicans secured the top spot and likely Zion Williamson in the process. This isn’t the first time that the franchise will pick first, as they won the lottery with the same exact odds and that resulted in the selection of Anthony Davis.

“We have an opportunity to build something that’s long-term sustainable and meaningful,” Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin said prior to the lottery on NBA TV. “Ownership has really invested in that process. Tonight is about one of the next building blocks involved in that. We’re going to be able to add another strong pillar to our group.”
