When you combine folk, reggae, and electronica-influenced pop music… you get Milky Chance! From Kassel, Germany, Milky Chance formed in 2012, and is made up of only 2 members – singer/songwriter Clemens Rehbein and DJ Philipp Dausch.
The duo first met in an advanced music course while in high school. At first, Rehbein and Dausch played together in a local band. After they graduated, the group disbanded, Rehbein and Dausch continued on as a duo. In 2013, after a few live shows, Milky Chance began work on their debut album. One of the tracks they uploaded to YouTube became viral – that track was the catchy “Stolen Dance” – racking up millions of views and leading to several sold-out tour dates! Check out the video below:
Milky Chance released their full-length debut album, Sadnecessary, in 2013. “Running” is another great track from their debut album.
They even covered my favorite Pixies song!! Check out this sessions video of Milky Chance performing “Where is My Mind” with a slight reggae twist!
I love when artists give you a little more insight behind the music – check out some of their commentary videos, like the one for “Down by the River” – where Clemens Rehbein talks about the river in their hometown, and his unique way of storytelling through music.
Probably their most fun video behind the music, this one has footage of their studio, and they talk about how they felt when things started happening for the band, touring, and coming home – Check out the video below – at one point they’re singing “If You’re Happy and you Know it Clap Your Hands” … IN GERMAN!!
Their new single Cocoon is out now, it’s the new one we’ve been jamming on 1063 Radio Lafayette! Check out the brand-new music video just released in November of 2016!
