They’re “raw and rootsy”, but don’t call them a blues act! The Record Company are three-piece rock band that carry a lot of the blues in their music, but have such high repect for the genre that they don’t consider themselves a blues band.
From three different cities, Singer/guitarist Chris Vos, bassist Alex Stiff (aka Alex Wood), and drummer Marc Cazorla formed The Record Company in 2011.
Stiff and Cazorla first met during their college days, where they played in blues bands that often at frat parties. Stiff moved to Los Angeles, after graduatin, and Cazorla followed. Vos, on the other hand, moved to Los Angeles in 2010 with his wife on a whim, where he answered Stiff and Cazorla’s ad on craigslist looking for like-minded musicians.
The band officially formed when Cazorla bought a battered drum kit at a garage sale, and they figured it was time to start playing music rather than talking about it. They began playing at smaller clubs and record stores where the cover was low (or free) and curious listeners could easily check them out. This resulted in a following in their hometown, and The Record Company eventually started booking shows at larger venues and festival dates – even opening for large acts like B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Blackberry Smoke, and Social Distortion.
2013 saw the release of their five-song EP, Feels So Good, that captured their unique raw and retro sound. There was also a limited edition vinyl release, which expanded the original 5 song set with an ultra-rare B-Side containing 3 unreleased, extended-length jams recorded specifically for late-night listening sessions. Check out the video for “Feels so Good” below!
From the EP Feels So Good – “Baby I’m Broken” was featured in the “Love For Sale” episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
“Ain’t Love Warm” is an unreleased song, featured on USA’s hit show, Suits.
In 2015, the Record Company toured Europe for the first time, and got signed with the Concord Music Group.
In February 2016, they released their debut album, Give It Back to You, featuring the lean and funky track, “Off the Ground” – Watch the official video for it below:
Give It Back to You also features a song that you have been hearing alot lately on 106.3 Radio Lafayette called “Rita Mae Young”, and they just released the video for it last month. The star of the video is a girl named Katie Sunshine, who tagged herself in her own Instagram video hula hooping to this song. The band loved it, so they reached out to see if she wanted to star in their official video – check it out!
You can catch The Record Company live in New Orleans next Tuesday (11/8/16) with The Marcus King Band – Check out our 1063 Concert Connection for more details!
