Morgan Reviews – The Crown

The Netflix Original series The Crown is one of the most surprisingly interesting shows I’ve seen in quite some time. With it Netflix continues its run of getting me into series on subjects I did not foresee myself being all that into. But man, this series is really good.

Season 1 starts around the re-election of Winston Churchill to Prime Minister after WW2, Churchill is brilliantly portrayed by John Lithgow, while the show will have plenty of recognizable faces, his might be the most known, but it also maybe Matt Smith, who portrayed the 11th Doctor Who and plays Prince Phillip, the Queen’s husband (not to be mistaken for the King as the show will explain), but much of the rest of the cast is quickly earning their fame as well. But in order for the series to cover several years in the life of the Queen, the cast will change every two years. There’s no word on who will be in the cast for next year, but check out Matt Smith on The Late Late Show with James Corden for some fun guessing.

The thing about the show that I find so fascinating, regardless of how you feel about the Crown, the Monarchy, British politics or history, you almost can’t help but respect the Queen for wearing the Crown thrusted on her by fate with such grace and she takes the role so seriously, even when the people around her wish she wouldn’t.

History fans will likely like it, drama fans will likely like it, and with so many things happening with our world leaders today, this series has landed at a great time. Check out Season 1 & 2 on Netflix.

TL;DR: A fascinating and personal look into the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
